Path 101 @ MIT - LIVE Stream

Here's a live stream of Path 101's booth at the MIT Venture Capital Showcase. It'll run from 5pm - 8pm EST.

EDIT (Dec 4): This is now a live stream of the Path 101 office. Usually a shot of Charlie's mug. Little creepy if you ask me, but hey, if you're going to be anti-stealth you might as well go all the way.

Crazy Startup Names

There's a great article in The Washington Post today titled: How Do You Tell a Web Name From A Typo?

It's true. Flickr. Twitter. Mahalo. BricaBox. Thoof. Etsy. Google, anyone? I don't need to go on.

Here: try out the Web 2.0 Name Generator.

Interactive Videos

Arcade Fire released their first video for their current album, Neon Bible. The video was released online at http://www.beonlineb.com. It's a great idea - a completely interactive video. Click around while you watch. The video was made specifically for the Internet with a production cost of about $15,000.

For more on interactive video check out this Reuters story.

Magnify.net Update

Magnify.net sent an e-mail out to it's members today with the words:

CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD - DO NOT BLOG
So, I'm not going to tell you what it said, but I will say that I think it's super cool that Magnify.net takes the time to inform it's members and publishers of updates before it goes public. It goes on to say:

We wanted to give you the heads up on these features, so that you wouldn't freak out when you see...
Right on Magnify.net. Thanks and I'll be looking out for the new features. So should you.

BricaBox Update

BricaBox, the New York based startup and publishing platform, released a major update this morning. You can get the details on the BricaBox blog and, if you'd like, you can Digg it here.

The update includes bug fixes, usability upgrades and several new features including MultiContent, or the ability to house multiple content types in a single BricaBox. I think it's a pretty cool platform.

Leave a comment if you need an invite and while you're at it, vote for me in the Silicon Alley 100: People's Choice list. I'm currently ranked 83.

Quick Update

Here's a quick update -

  • What was up?
    • I was in Denver all last week visiting friends, skiing and vacationing in general. I'm back now. Pictures on Flickr soon.
    • I bought an XBox 360 this weekend. Broke down after playing at a friend's in Denver. My XBox Live name is "abaisley" - ready to kick Mike's ass in Madden 08.

Network Updates View on LinkedIn

I am loving the new "Network Updates" view on the front page of LinkedIn (you have to be signed-in to see it). It breaks down updates across your network by the last several days/weeks. Basically, giving you a timeline of what your network has been doing.

The obvious reason for this is to not only give you an overview of what your network is doing, but provide a call to action to click-through, spend more time on the site and do some more networking.

Here's what mine looks like:

Google Maps Logo

I was using Google Maps today, checking out my mate's place in Denver where I'll be next week when I noticed a special logo today:
I Thought, why is there a big poop on Google's logo? Oh wait... that's Asia. Sorry Asia, I don't think you're poop.

CBS/MTA Offering Free WiFi in Midtown Manhattan

Great news today on CenterNetworks: CBS Offers Midtown Manhattan Free Wireless Internet Access. CBS, in partnership with the MTA, will offer free, "super-local" ad-supported WiFi in the zone outlined to the right (image credit: CenterNetworks).

This is a great first step to blanketing New York in free WiFi, which I personally think is a long time coming. No word on how the MTA factors into this or if this will cover subway stations/tunnels in this zone (I hope so!).

Someone has been searching on the site for a picture of me. There isn't one, so here you go:

Now that's what I call proactive reader engagement.

Free Website Ribbons

Came across this cool website via Digg's frontpage. It's a corner ribbon generator. And, it's free. I created one that says, "Subscribe to RSS" and links to my RSS feed. Pretty simple, but draws attention.

Note: current RSS readers will need to click through to the site to see what I'm talking about.

WGA: Impact on the Presidential Race

How will the WGA strike impact the current presidential race? Many candidates, probably most notably Kucinich, have leveraged late night television with great success. It's arguable that Kucinich would be no where near where he is today without the "Colbert Bump." But, with the WGA strike, these shows are off the air and will be for the foreseeable future.

How badly does this hurt the candidates that can't afford their own TV time?

A Different Kind of Travel Site

I'm planning a few trips out of town. For the week of Thanksgiving I'll be out in Denver, visiting some friends and hopefully doing some skiing.

My office is closed the entire week of Christmas and I'd like to take a trip somewhere warm. So far I've found the best deals on Priceline, but it's a real pain the the ass, to be frank. I want a package - flight and hotel - but I don't really care where I actually end up. What I'd like to do is specify my travel dates, set a budget and a general location (Mexico, Caribbean, etc) and then be shown my choices.

The way it works now, I have to indicate specific cities. So, I've got Google Maps open and I'm typing in the names of destination cities... over and over. Really not fun.

Does this exist?

Week of Insanity

I've been so busy this week that I entirely forgot that I had a blog. Sorry about that. I'll be back fresh on Monday and, unlike WGA members, I'll write a few things up for you guys.
